SYTYCD News Roundup

We just got to see Brian Friedman again during the season 2 marathon on MTV. Catch up with Brian in this article at Movmnt Magazine.

Something For Nothing found an interesting Allison Holker video montage.

Our friend Booker calls this article, written before her injury, a "very gushy & romantic interview with lovebirds Lacey and Hok":

"He is by far the best thing that ever happened to me," Schwimmer gushed to In Touch about Konishi. "It's exciting to know that I have my best friend and my love with me at all times."

MORE

Now that Lacey is back home rehabbing her knee, she does some Halloween thuggin', with a feather duster in some new pics on her Myspace page. Yeah, that's Benji with her, showing off his newly shaved head, along with a friend named Bear. Hmmm.

Natalie Bassingthwaighte, the newly named host of the upcoming Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance, talks about the auditions in this article in the Herald-Sun:
During rehearsals, which reach Sydney on October 27 and 28 and Melbourne on November 3 and 4, Bassingthwaighte doesn't get to see much dancing.

"I'm with the contestants during warm-ups and helping them come to terms with their nerves," Bassingthwaighte said.

"I'm a bit of a mother hen figure."

Awww, she's following the Cat Deeley template.

Revolution Update

We've talked previously about Revolution, the rock & roll and dance mashup that opened recently at the Joyce Theater in New York. I heard from fellow blogger Kongye, that Time Out New York had given the show a less than optimistic listing:

The silly Revolution continues. Cocreators Michael Schulster and Joel Hanna are trying to cash in on the aesthetic of So You Think You Can Dance. Performers include Allison Holker, Mike Warshaw, Krista Montrone and Jimmy Guasto.

I then found this piece by Eva Yaa Asantewaa at InfiniteBody that offered some hope:
The richly-produced, rollicking show looks pitched at Broadway, and indeed the older, Broadway-type audience at the Joyce seemed to warm to it after the initial shock of bright rock-show lights in their eyes and the first blast of drums in their ears. (Speaking of drums--why the elaborate Plexiglas shield around the drum kit? Protection from dancer sweat?) The program notes actually refer to Revolution's intended market as "the much sought-after 18-35 bracket." Yes, you read that right: crass marketing strategy right there in your face. But that's not who was sitting there last night and, to all appearances, loving it.

MORE

Now we have reviews from Tonya at Swan Lake Samba Girl and Alistair MacAuley at the New York Times. One (sort of) giveth and one (kind of) taketh away. Fortunately, we have one more source to call upon. Kongye wrote:
I'm going to the Humanities Series performance on Wednesday night where the cast and choreographers hold a Q&A after the show to further the understanding of dance (http://joyce.org/education_adult_ed.html#humanities). I'd be happy to pass along my experience with that. I'd also possibly be open to asking something if you or your readers really wanted to pass a question along.

So chime in if you have any questions, and we'll look forward to hearing Kongye's thoughts after the show.

Video From Last Year's Tour

Myspacer Did He Just Go Crazy and Fall Asleep has several videos posted from last season's tour. They're decent amateur quality but watchable, and unlike the show, the camera stays in one place and doesn't cut away just when things get interesting.

3 From Jaimie

A reader submitted this McDonalds Commercial. Jaimie Goodwin is the one in the red dress, and all the way to the right in the group. It was choreographed by Tyce Diorio.

Our friend Clarita thinks we have yet to see the best of Jaimie on the show. She says:

...she hasn't had as much of a chance to prove it yet because she's only soloed once, but she is arguably the best technical dancer among the females on the show. The thing is that she's nuanced and doesn't have as standout of a personality, so it's easy to miss her, but if you focus on her dancing, it's truly beautiful/amazing. No surprise that she trains at the same place as Danny, Travis and Allison.

She suggests this video of Jaimie at NYCDA.

While preparing this post, we stumbled on this one, solos by Jaimie and Travis at NYCDA Burbank.

In Case You Missed It

It came out during last Wednesday's performance show, so you may have missed it. Movmnt Magazine published an interview with season 2 favorites Travis Wall and Ivan Koumaev. They talk a bit about Danny Tidwell and Jaimie Goodwin, their own DVD, and their plans to work with Blake Lewis. Allison Holker even makes a quick appearance. The most amazing thing is that Ivan does the whole interview with some sort of small animal attached to his head.

Wrapping up the week

Jenny T. Partridge talks about meeting season 2 finalist Allison Holker and recaps this week's shows.

I met Allison Holker from Season Two last week. We hired her to do a master class at our studio, and can I just say she is just as cute, and JUST as talented and sweet as she seemed on the show. She got robbed. The girl should have won.
