Was Last Night A Preview Of The Next Tour?

It's been brought up in comments and in a couple of articles around the web. It's the concern I mentioned before the Idol Gives Back show. Back in November, Nigel Lythgoe floated the idea of combining American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance tours. As far as I know, it's still being considered, despite the fact that, at the time, the idea was soundly rejected around the web by fans of both shows. A poll of BSYTYCD readers ended up 160-4 against the idea.

It was great to see so many of our favorites last night, and the opening routine was the most entertaining part of the show, IMHO. For once, the dancers were given the spotlight ahead of the singers. That doesn't mean that it will work for an entire tour. The only positive I can think is that possibly the arrangement would force the tour producers to pay the dancers at a level equivalent to the singers. Otherwise, I really hope it doesn't happen.

Body: WHY HELLLLLLLLO!With the tour being non stop and us barely ever having the internet its been hard to update my myspace. But sadly the tour is coming to an end tomorrow and we pack our things to go home. WOW! INSANE!!!!! sytycd has been our life, our love, our hard work and more for the past 9 months. We all feel like we should be doing these shows for the rest of our lives. But as much as I would just LOOOOOVE to be doing transformers and lion king through my 80's and 90's its just not gonna happen! hahaha. But seriously, every good thing has to come to an end at some point. Just to let everyone know, we are all very determined and hard working people....it wont end here for us!

Everyone is using this experience to carry on and create new GOOD things. Don't want to spoil any surprises but you will be seeing a lot of the cast members in the future ;) I don't think America could have picked a better top 10! I am so blessed to have shared every moment of everyday by their sides. I got to meet so many good/cool/fun people while on this tour. It was definitely a blast meeting everyone ho voted for us and supported us during the show. Your love, laughter, kind words, cards, and gifts...

Tour Update From Sabra

Sabra Johnson has posted some thoughts about the tour to her Myspace blog:

To Everyone

We just left San Francisco and came into Oakland to do our show tonight. It's our 44th show. It's pretty insane and I'm not so sure how I feel about it :). Including tonight we have 6 shows left. We will be done in a week from today. Seven days. I can't believe I've basically spent my whole year doing this show and now it's coming to an end. It's a bittersweet ordeal.
Haha being with the same 14 people everyday can get a little overboard but you get attached at the same time. It's our routine and now we are pretty much bound together for life. We will never forget and when we meet again things will be the same way we left it. This tour has been soooooo long but so short at the same time. Everyday we are in a different place and a different time which means we all lose track. A week feels like a month and a month feels like a week. We have been lucky to see so many places and sleep in everyday all the while doing what we love:).
I'm not the homesick type but I miss my fam and friends and I can't wait to have my own bed and closet! I can't wait to see what I can do with this opportunity. This has been like the start of my life. It will always be very, very significant but a small portion of my life. I hope I make good choices so my experiences only get better. I've had a lot of fun and I've learned a lot about...... everything.
There's no way for me to explain really what it has been like. We have all grown in different ways but it's been together. This experience is ours and only ours as the 14 of us go on and do seperate things. We will always have this and be the ones to understand what it was like. It's neat to be able to call it our own, kind of like a secret:).......

Pasha And Anya Interview

Murtz Jaffer at Reality Dish continues his excellent series of interviews with the tour dancers. Today we hear from the team of Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis:

Murtz Jaffer: I wanted to start with Anya. I think I read something really funny on your bio where it asked you what your favorite hobbies were and you said 'none.' It actually says that. I guess you are so busy with dancing that you don't have time for anything else. I wanted to see if there is anything else that you like (besides dancing)?

Anya Garnis: Oh no. They must have changed it because my answer was like 'I was studying speech and acting' so yeah, I am doing some different things on the side. Dancing is how we work and how we support ourselves, but besides that I have been taking acting classes as well as... (turns to Pasha). What's that face?

Pasha Kovalev: I was messing with Neil while you were answering your question!

AG: Yeah, I have been taking speech classes, working, you know, being from a different country and all. That's my hobby, I guess! (Laughs).

"Idol", "Dance" Tours To Combine?

The New York Post is reporting that American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance producer Nigel Lythgoe wants to combine the "Idol" tour with the "Dance" tour next year.

"I'd love to see the 'Dance' tour go out with the 'Idol' tour and put the singing and dancing together," he says. "They should never be separate.

"I'd like to see that happen."

It seems to me this would mean even larger venues than this year, and less dancing. My initial reaction is a resounding NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! What do you think?

Live Journal Blogger noisywallflower went to the Halloween performance last night in Cleveland.

So they’re doing their encore of You Can’t Stop The Beat in their Halloween costumes and the music sllllooooows down and slows down and their dancing slows with the music and then BAM! THRILLER! YES! They did the Thriller dance! It was the best thing ever. And Dominic was trying to get candy from the audience.

Tonight's Toronto show sold out in a matter of hours. TheStar.com previews and talks to Danny Tidwell:

You'd think that for someone who has performed at Lincoln Center, dancing for a TV competition would be a come-down, but Tidwell says he has gathered a lot of new skills over the last year. "I've learned a lot about partnering. Ballroom is a great way to learn where a woman's weight is."

It's hard when you first start out, he says, "to find your own personality on stage."

But, he thinks being on So You Think You Can Dance, with all the grilling that goes on to show what the dancers are like as people, helps a dancer develop a stage persona.

The St Louis Post-Dispatch interviewed Sabra Johnson and Danny Tidwell for a tour stop preview:

Q: How did you feel, the week (head judge) Nigel Lythgoe predicted the winner would be female?

Johnson: You never know considering most of the people watching are young girls, who'll vote for the boys because they're so cute. Honestly, it wasn't about winning for me. It was about getting through the day and the next performance, and about having fun.

Tidwell: Me and Neil's faces fell to the floor. It was a slap to the face.

Many seem to think that Nigel's comment influenced the voting, but I'm wondering about all the times Danny was clearly called the best dancer the show had ever seen. Wouldn't that have been just as influential, if not more so? Did Nigel's comment actually change anyone's vote?

Danny Changes His Solo

In the last few tour dates, Danny has ditched the We Are The Champions solo in favor of the Fear You Won't Fall routine. I think he did it for Loralyn, as it's her favorite.

Ease On Down The Road

Kameron Bink and Shauna Noland perform Tyce Diorio's Ease On Down The Road in Atlantic City. I very much enjoyed Jimmy Arguello's energetic performance in the original, but Kameron does a good job here. Bad audio warning.
