TWOP released an interview with Dan Karaty. Asked if there will be any changes for season 4:

You're going to be seeing obviously some new musical performances, how we have guest recording artists come out there. We got a couple surprises in the bag, and a couple other performers that'll be out there that'll surprise you. And we've mixed up the audition dates this year and we're doing new cities. Like Washington, D.C., which we've never done before. So we're going to scope out some new and different talent out there.

Dan also discusses the growing popularity of dance, Mia Michaels' creative process, and his take on Wade Robson's anti-war solos last season.




Last night was the Dance Times Square showcase. Tony & Melanie presented, Pasha & Anya performed, Sabra & Kameron were in the audience, and fortunately for us, Tonya Plank was there to report.

Brett Love at TVSquad shows why he's the web's top TV dance journalist in this interview with Dancing With The Stars' Jonathan Roberts. He couldn't resist asking about So You Think You Can Dance:

Brett: One more question that I was wondering about. Now that Dancing With The Stars is ending, I'll turn my attentions to So You Think You Can Dance and I was wondering if that's something that you watch, or are you a fan?

Jonathan: Definitely. I've had several friends that have been on it, some of the ballroom dancers. We pretty much all know each other, so it's great for me to see the success that a lot of them have had on the show. What I like about So You Think You Can Dance is that there are no celebrities involved. It's basically whatever they do on screen is how people perceive them and vote for them and it really is these young kids showing off their amazing talent.

Brett: That's the biggest thing for me with that show. I'm always amazed at the level of talent they are able to bring in every year.

Jonathan: Absolutely.

night's Oscar show. Finally, a reason to watch.







Sara Von Gillern will be touring across North America and Europe with Avril Lavigne beginning March 5th. It's a huge number of dates and goes everywhere from Kamloops, B.C to Riga, Latvia.

Missed this the first time through, but in this interview, Mary Murphy mentions that Wade Robson will be one of the choreographers on season 4. Maybe it's not a sure thing that he won't be returning, but I'm still hearing it's doubtful.

And then our host appears. In case you haven’t been flicking through the pages of your local TV Guide recently, the job was given to Rogue Traders lead singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte. No, wait, Bassinghthwaithe. Or is it Basghsighthwaighthte? Who knows, but there are far too many letters. I prefer Cat Deeley the minute Bassinghthwhaihththththe opens her mouth, complete with her nauseating nose inflexions and grating Australian twang.

We’re given little more time to analyse our hostess as we are instantly transported to Perth, the setting for the first round of auditions. But wait! Here she is again!

“This is an ABSOLUTE MASSIVE TURNOUT in Perth…HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS have turned out here today!!” screams Bashingtwit as she scurries up and down the line of maybe one thousand people and assuring her audience she knows nothing about adverbs. Hundreds of thousands? It’s as if she’s insinuating the entire population of Perth were there.

I know there's some tour drama and some people are mad at the dancers - but instead of focusing on the negative things about the dancers, I want to talk about the positive things and say that Jesus and Sara are super nice, down to earth and mature. It was great to interview them, and great to chat with them later on at the backstage meet and greet.

Brian Friedman is taking heat in the UK for some performances on The X-Factor:

X FACTOR choreographer Brian Friedman has come under fire after a catalogue of disasters last week.

We can reveal the dancers he chose were not up to the job – but it was reckoned too late to hire any more.

So he had to DROP some dancers and LEAVE OUT parts of the tricky routines.

Creative director Brian is now under pressure to produce a better performance in tomorrow’s show.

The tour ends a week from today in Reno, Nv. Previewing Wednesday's show in Everett, Wa. Andy Rathbun of Herald.net talked to Lacey and Neil:

While many of the show's contestants had training in dance, TV brought them a rare sort of attention. Dance, after all, usually doesn't attract fans like this -- the sign-waving, MySpace-posting variety.

"You never play arenas, and you're never the headliner of the show," said Neil Haskell, who also finished in the show's top four. "Say you're on a tour. You're backing up an artist, so people never know your name, people never know who you are."

Kiss that anonymity goodbye, Haskell. People run up to the 20-year-old in shopping malls, screaming, he said. He was quick with a wisecrack during the TV show's run, but he said he deals with those Beatlesque moments calmly in person.

"You just have to remember that some people sometimes don't realize that we're exactly like them," he said. "I'm not any different than who I was last year at this time."

Murtz Jaffer at Reality Dish posted an informative interview with Sara Von Gillern and Jesus Solorio:

MJ: What was your favorite performance because the one that stood out to me was the hip-hop routine to Salt & Pepa's "Push It."

SVG: Oh my god!

MJ: With the outfits and Nigel going crazy about the outfits.

SVG: It was so bad!

MJ: You didn't like it?

SVG: That was my least favorite. Like me coming from a hip-hop background you know what I mean, there's like so much more that we could have done with that whole like early 90's type feel but you know, it was the choreographer's choice.

Reports from the tour indicate that Lacey Schwimmer's knee injury has gotten worse and caused her to stop dancing for at least the next 3 shows. Shauna Noland is filling in for Lacey in the Dancing routine with Kameron Bink, Jaimie Goodwin is subbing for her in the Time piece with Neil Haskell, and Anya Garnis takes her place in the Samba with Danny Tidwell. Lacey and Danny's Viennese Waltz has been replaced with Anya & Danny's Viennese Waltz from early in the season. The Mein Herr routine has been dropped entirely as it was designed for the top 4 dancers. Lacey still appears at the beginning and end of the shows. The tour takes tonight off before appearing in Hampton, Va. tomorrow night.


Wade Robson will appear on tomorrow night's Dancing With The Stars results show. Reliable sources have confirmed that Travis Wall will be amongst the 8 dancers appearing with Wade. Thanks to Loralyn for the original tip.

Let’s see, this is a pretty solid group that doesn’t yield all that much dirt, but we did hear that Sabra had a Janet Jackson-like wardrobe malfunction during the dress rehearsal last week. Yep, the crew was treated to an unexpected sort of show! Also unexpected—and so awesome—is an amazing breaker routine they’ve choreographed for the tour with Sara, Hok and Dominic. Apparently, Sara will be flying all over the place! And in case you were wondering, yes, Lacey and Hok are still very much together, and we’re hearing they're as happy as ever.

Here's the first review I've seen, at Sean's Space.

In short, the SYTYCD kids did everything from the quick-step to samba, from contemporary to even popping and locking. Each of the 10 finalists (that's Sabra, Danny Tidwell, Neil Haskell, Lacey, Pasha Kovalev, Lauren Gottlieb, Dominic Sandoval, Sara Von Gillern, Kameron Bink and Jaimie Goowin) did a solo throughout the night, each teamed up for couples routines, and there were even several dances that included all 10 together.

With Pasha gone, I wasn't really rooting for anyone in the final four and would have been truly happy to see anyone win so getting to the final reveal was secondary for me while watching the episode. For me it was all about seeing my favorites again (PASHA! SARA!) and a lot of montage/dancing. And other than the final four, don't think I didn't notice and Sara and Pasha probably danced the most routines that night. That made me happy. The routines that the judges "picked" were mostly right on, but it did feel VERY structured.

The main point I'm trying to make here is that it is a sad reality for the dancers that their fame will be fleeting no matter how high up in the ranks they make it in the dance world. Unlike singing, success in dancing does not equal fame. I hope viewers are aware of this and take the time they spend with contestants every summer to truly appreciate what they have: the only large-scale medium unto which amateur dancers have a chance to shine. There's a very good chance that, unless you see the So You Think You Can Dance tour, you will never, ever see Sara Von Gillern or Lacey Schwimmer again.
