SYTYCD News Update
Even though he's busy studying for exams, Leee found time to recap last week's events, including this bit of wisdom:
No matter how much the judges try to assert themselves as the centers of attention, we should generally ignore them and their shortcomings in particular -- because why let a trio (sometimes a quartet) of nonsense machines spoil our pleasure?

Nate Levy speaks for most of us:
If I’m watching a show called “So You Think You Can Dance”, chances are I’m watching to, you know, see people dance. So why, editors, must you cut the numbers to within an inch of their life. I’m not talking about duration here, I’m talking about the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a shot that lasts longer than two seconds this year. Dance is all about movement, flow, rhythm. So why are you cutting it so that I can’t observe any of those things in the dances? My other big gripe with you guys is that, well, these are partner dances. And I get that what one dancer is doing is probably more interesting than the other at times, but there’s still two dancers on stage. So why do you seem content to only show one a lot of the time? So many times this season, you’ve cut to show only one dancer’s movements. Unless the other dancer is standing absolutely still, this is kind of unacceptable. The choreographers have made these routines for two people. Both dancers have moves. So show both of them for gods sake.

"Dance" is part of an almost spiritual mission to raise the profile of dance in American culture, to raise the prospects for professional dancers and to make dance an accepted and prized part of daily life.

Our favorite crazy French-Canadian ballroom choreographer, Jean Marc Généreux, wants French speaking Canadian dancers to feel welcome on SYTYCD Canada:
"I want to be a judge because the judge has a very important task - to shape the show," Généreux said.
"Our decisions will influence the quality of the dancers. Being a guy from Quebec and a francophone, I think it's very important to add this (Quebec) texture to the show. I want to make sure every single demographic feels welcome," he continued.
Généreux hopes his presence will help more Quebecers come out of the woodwork and showcase their talent on the show.
In another article, he says
"We're looking for intelligence, talent and honesty," Généreux said Tuesday. "The most talented dancer may not win. The most intelligent dancer will win."

Lacey Interviews
We have 2 recent interviews with Lacey Schwimmer, one text, one audio.
ShimmyOnline talked to her about, amongst other things, her recent knee surgery:
Shimmy: How is your knee healing? Is this your first major dance-related injury?
Lacey: FIRST? Noway! I have torn and strained muscles all my life, part of a dancers world if you ask me! But this is the first time I have ever had surgery. My knee is healing well, I have 4 small scars, but since I've been pushing my knee to the max, I have tendonitis in the patella. (the cap) Painful ,but working through it.
Shimmy: Have you begun training again?
Lacey: I just started retraining my center of balance ,which has gotten the best of me. Its really frustrating to know that you cant do things the way you used to. Although, my therapist is saying i am already stronger than before my injury!

SYTYCD News Roundup

Marine Gobert continues her series of interviews at Down The Road Webzine. It makes a difference when a real fan asks the questions. As Marine says on her LJ blog:
I know there's some tour drama and some people are mad at the dancers - but instead of focusing on the negative things about the dancers, I want to talk about the positive things and say that Jesus and Sara are super nice, down to earth and mature. It was great to interview them, and great to chat with them later on at the backstage meet and greet.

Brian Friedman is taking heat in the UK for some performances on The X-Factor:
X FACTOR choreographer Brian Friedman has come under fire after a catalogue of disasters last week.
We can reveal the dancers he chose were not up to the job – but it was reckoned too late to hire any more.
So he had to DROP some dancers and LEAVE OUT parts of the tricky routines.
Creative director Brian is now under pressure to produce a better performance in tomorrow’s show.

The article doesn't make it clear what happened. Can any of our UK readers fill us in? If you guys don't want him any more, we'll gladly take him back.
The tour ends a week from today in Reno, Nv. Previewing Wednesday's show in Everett, Wa. Andy Rathbun of Herald.net talked to Lacey and Neil:
While many of the show's contestants had training in dance, TV brought them a rare sort of attention. Dance, after all, usually doesn't attract fans like this -- the sign-waving, MySpace-posting variety.
"You never play arenas, and you're never the headliner of the show," said Neil Haskell, who also finished in the show's top four. "Say you're on a tour. You're backing up an artist, so people never know your name, people never know who you are."
Kiss that anonymity goodbye, Haskell. People run up to the 20-year-old in shopping malls, screaming, he said. He was quick with a wisecrack during the TV show's run, but he said he deals with those Beatlesque moments calmly in person.
"You just have to remember that some people sometimes don't realize that we're exactly like them," he said. "I'm not any different than who I was last year at this time."

More Interviews From Toronto

Marine, aka LightGrenade, is posting a series of interviews with the tour cast at Down The Road Webzine. The first 2 are with Pasha & Anya, and Hok & Lacey. Marine promises more tomorrow. There is a gallery of photos here.
An excerpt from Pasha & Anya:
What was your favorite style of dance to learn on the show?
Pasha: You know, every style of dance was interesting to try, I think hip-hop was the most challenging and surprising because it’s completely different game play because in ballroom you’re here, and up there and dance with your partner and presenting your partner. In hip-hop, you’re down and slouching and “whassup girl!” and I’m like “oh, how does that work?” I learned a little bit. [laughs]
Anya: I would say contemporary and hip-hop as well. You’re taking your heels off, and you’re a different person, basically. [laughs] It was very challenging, different connection with your partner and there are different movements so I definitely felt that my body was very sore the next day after hard training and long hours of practicing.
MORE
Hok & Lacey are finally asked about something other than their relationship:
So I heard you guys got injured, tell me about that…
[Hok and Lacey laugh]
Hok: We’ve never had that question! That’s true.
Lacey: Well, why don’t you talk first.
Hok: Okay, I’ve had a herniated disk before the show and I think it’s ‘cause of that I strained my oblique muscle on the other side so basically I had an injury on my left side and I injured my right side too, so I was off the show for a little bit but now the right side’s completely better and you know, the left side is still not completely better, but I have to cope with it. And Lacey is doing…
Lacey: I just got back, it’s actually my third show back, it’s kind of weird actually because I’m not all the way better yet, and I won’t be until after surgery, but I’m clear to dance for now, you know, it can’t get injured any worse, they said, I just have to bite through the pain a little bit. I have a torn meniscus on my left knee so I’ll be getting surgery very shortly unfortunately.
Ouch. So you’re not performing all the dances yet.
Lacey: No, there’s certain dances that I can’t do, I’m just warming my knee up to it so by the end of the tour I should be able to do most of my routines.
Well I hope you guys feel better soon!
Lacey: Aw, thank you!

How far is too far?

hello friends and family!
i received a call from lacey on saturday that was so disturbing that i really couldnt believe what she was telling me. through tears and crying, lacey told me about lauren physically abusing her and that she was frightened because 2 people saw lauren abusing lacey and walked by as if nothing was going on! not too add to the already fragile injury that lacey has with her knee, it was almost too much for me to bear as her mother! i couldnt physically protect lacey! so i calmed lacey down and then called a girl named ashley, who is suppose to be in charge of all the dancers! when she answered the phone, i thought i was talking to a 12 year old! i asked her how old she was, and she told me that she didnt want to reveal that to me, which meant she was very young! later on i found out that she is 19! a 19 year old is in charge of all the dancers on tour??!! youve got to be kidding me! after talking to her for about 5 minutes, she said that she had to go a try and fix the issue....i asked her if she would call me back when it was resolved....she told me that i could call her back!!! so then, i called jeff thacker....he is one of the producers on sytycd, and the tour really is his responsibility......
CLICK TO CONTINUE READING
he kept trying to make light of what had happened.....telling me that....and i quote...."girls will be girls!" well i will tell you, i didnt raise my daughter to treat people like lauren did to her....in fact, the way that lacey handled the situation is the way that i raised her....to be a lady! then jeff said i dont have to deal with you or this and hung up the phone!! hanging up on anyone is such a cowardly action....this then led me to believe that jeff would do nothing about this! he never reassured me that laceys safety was important and that i need not worry about lauren doing anything else to my daughter.....he did not even attempt to talk to lauren, he said that it would just make matters worse! really??!! are you kidding me!!! i realized that jeff thacker had no problem solving skills and was embarrassed by getting caught.....thus, hanging up!!! so, my whole family went to extremes to help lacey feel strong enough to go on! we got a lawyer, who is ready to take any legal action against lauren if she gets anywhere close to lacey.....we also have been informed that legally we can get a restraining order against lauren.....we have no problem or hesitation in doing what is necessary to protect lacey. i wasnt going to write anything about this horrific episode, but i had so many of you writing me and having concerns for laceys safety that i thought i would let everyone know exactly what happened! i am not doing this out of spite or anger, only to inform everyone. please keep lacey in your thoughts and prayers....tour should be a great memory and experience for all the dancers....how dare lauren try and take that away from lacey! our family is onto lauren, and will stop at nothing to protect our lacey! thank you all so much for all of your concerns....you have all been so supportive to lacey since the beginning of sytycd.....i never revealed any of this mistreatment that lacey was enduring during sytycd by lauren, we felt it would be better if we just dealt with it quietly, but not now! physical abuse is physical abuse.....and will not be tolerated by my family!!! lacey is such a wonderful young lady....she has made great friends with most of the dancers on the show....but lauren has never been one, and lacey has never wanted anything to do with lauren!!! neither does our family!
take care,
laurie kauffman

Lacey Blog Post
Lacey Schwimmer has posted the following to her Myspace blog. It appears there has been some behind-the-scenes ugliness.
even tho war has took its part....i know i have you...
Current mood: angry
so to sum things up for you i need to send an apology to those wo went to the lexington kentucky show.....i was not myself that evening due to this...in which i know you will all understand.
here it goes!
a few days ago in kentucky, wait lets bring this back.....to the tv show.... i had some problems with one of the girls on the show due to high school drama in which i decided to ignore and let happen.
so during the show would hear the comments comming from the hall the laughter comming from her room, their room. and let it happen because i dont like to get in arguments or yell and scream. so as i wittnessed bad behaivor happen i took a deep breath and ignored my surroundings focusing on you, my friends, my family.
so needless to say the entire duration of the show was not the happiest behind the scenes but all i had dreamed of on camera.
when the show was over i figured the drama would stop people would relax and get out of the competition mode... i guess i was wrong...things continued to drop with this person.
which leads me to a few days ago.

im sitting on a couch with hok and in walks the girl....an hok leaves for a meeting so i quietly pack up my stuff to avoid akward conversation. as im exiting the room she asks if we can talk....for the first time ever. i replied with a calm ,"i do not not to talk to you." she laughs and says "we need to talk" i said "just becasue u had a meeting with the producr you now need to talk to me? i do not want to talk with you." as calm as i could. i then continued to walk through the door when suddenyl she yells while grabbing my arm. i then remove my arm from her strong hands to try and leave without conflict. she then procede to grab my shoulders and push me up against the wall. i then ask her calmly to remove her hands and let go of me then she say" grow the f**k up " i continue to ask her to remove her hands as she shakes me against the wall cussing at me tell me how immature i am . i then decide to shut up and stare at her to let her no im not fighting back. she thens asks" what is wrong with you why are you staring at me." i once again asked her if she would remove her hands before it gets out of hand" then she relpies "NO we are gunna talk" i raised my voice and said " i have nothing to say to you!" she then tried to closed the door while holding me to the wall...luckily the door was locked which gave me a chace to leave the room. in which she runs to get the producer to force me to talk to her. i run to the busses to grab my laptop and headphones to calm down. as im exiting the bus...shaking and crying. she walks in and pushes me to the couch and is yeling cussing and making fun of me..mocking me if you will. i sit up an try to walk out when she grabs me i said..."if you hit me i will PUNCH you" then one of the girls steps in and pushes her off me. i then go back to breathing and not talking as she continues to mock and yell. then 2 dancers walk on the bus and dont do anything.so finally to get away i call my mother on the phone to tell her THIS GIRL is cornering me in the bus so i wont get out. she starts yelling while im on the phone with my mom
security finally escorts me to a secured rom where hok enters as im crying and tryng to calm down then the producer walks in ...then BAM i get an anxiety attack...i bolt out the door trying to get a paperbag to control my breathing then they start chasing me s i run to some plae and i found a bathroom where i sat in the corner of the stall hoping nobody would find me trying to breath and calm down to call my family.
i finaly knew i could be calm and go on with the day after few phones calls from my parents in which they were hung up on and ignored.... so i figure this is a job and i have to deliver so i go to stage for rehersal....do the show...not talking to anyone because everyone thinks im just quiet for no reason...becasue SHE told a story in which i got mad about her wanting to talk to me.
after the show i figured maybe the produce would come up and speak with me maybe a dancer? everyone with the exception of a few people...just went along. which leads me to today.im apologizing to you guys in lexington if i wasnt myself.
being thrown round is a weird especially if you have never had that happen before.
its funy how tv can make certain people look a certain way... but in reality they are monsters.
just letting you guys know and im sorry!
big love

Lacey Returns
Lacey Schwimmer returns to the tour after taking time to recover from her knee injury. Reports indicate that she is performing in the Mia Michaels Time routine with Neil Haskell, and her Samba with Danny Tidwell. Here's the Time routine in Toronto.
Our friend Carissa (Momma2Mingbu) reports from the Indianapolis show last night:
Unfortunately Dominic was sick tonight so we didn't get to see him dance at all. Shauna is still replacing Lacey in the "Dancing" number with Kam. She did a great job filling in, but of course it was a little disappointing to not get to see Lacey dance it. (She did do "Hip Hip Chin Chin" with Danny. Yum. Sexiest number of the whole year. I wish they would have done the Pasha/Lacey manequin routine.) I'll give the camera guys props for doing a really great job (better than the TV show camera work!) and having enough sense to let us see their feet on the video screen on things like Pasha and Sabra's quick step. Seeing Pasha and Anya dance together was a real treat. The transition from the Matrix piece into Pasha and Lauren's hip-hop was a nice choice. Mia's piece about her dad is so much more moving in person. I loved the way they added the group in at the beginning to strew the flowers around the stage. I wish they could have danced it that way before. The two princes piece with Neil and Danny was fabulous with lots of tension and energy. Pasha, Neil, Danny and Sara all have wonderful stage presence.

Thanks to Aliza for the use of the above photo from the East Rutherford show. There's plenty more great photos at her album.
We're getting reports that Lacey Schwimmer is returning to the the tour and may even be performing tonight in Columbus, Oh.
Our Myspace bud Angelica went to the Minneapolis show Sunday night. Here's her report:
The show was AMAZING... yes the stage was high but I could see pretty well even in the front row. The only thing I hated was they got mad if we stood up! About the dances... the one that stood out to me was the Prince dance w/ Danny and Neil! Of course Danny is my absolute favorite but they both rocked that! The Time piece touched me very much and I enjoyed Jamie in it. Lauren stood out to me the whole night.. that girl was rocking it! The show was very scripted but cute at the same time. Dom talked a lot and cracked his crazy jokes. There was one point where some guy screamed, I LOVE YOU NEIL! when he was on stage alone and Neil was just cracking up as well as everyone else!
The only dance that did not do anything to me was the Wiz dance with Kameron and Shauna... I don't believe they had chemistry and Shauna was not doing it as well as she did w/ Jimmy!
On to the meet and greet... it was in a press room and not many people in there at all... probably only 25-30!! You can imagine me FREAKING out before the dancers came in! They came in one or a few at a time and it was up to us to go up to them. Here goes...
I met Jesus first and he was the sweetest guy! My mom and I told him how much we liked him and how sad we were when he got kicked off! He was very gracious and adorable!
Anya-She is beautiful but SO small! I thought she would be taller than she was! We were talking about how terrible the lighting was in the room and I told her I loved her and Danny and they were my favorite couple
Danny...after the jump

Danny...YES THIS WAS THE BEST MOMENT! He walked in looking really shy so I ran right up to him and said Hi and he smiled really big and gave me a hug.. I almost died!! Then my mom took 2 pictures of us cause I am obsessed. LOL. He said hi to my mom and I told him how many fans he has, how beautiful he is and how I send him a card to his mothers studio. He was so gracious and so attentive and looked me in the eye the whole time I talked.. which was a long time! He then needed somewhere to put his coat and me being strange said I would hold it and he started laughing really hard!
Pasha-My mom asked him if he still talked to Jessi and he seemed VERY uncomfortable with this question and said no. I asked him what she was up to and he said he has no idea. He was very quite to me.
Lauren-This girl was AWESOME! We talked about a lot and I told her she had so much energy tonight and she really stood out and she laughed and said she was trying to sleep in between numbers. What a pretty girl too!
Sara-I talked to her the longest. She asked me all these questions about myself, how long I danced for etc and was so sweet. I felt the most comfortable with her and she really is generous. She told me the girls did not get to shower yet and she thought she stunk LOL
Kameron and Sabra-I talked to them together and Kameron was the first one that asked my name. Talk about a HOTTIE in person by the way! He was very very kind. Sabra was hilarious too. I asked her if she had a cold because she keep sniffling and she told me it was just allergies and Kameron said no it's because she picks her nose all the time! Well when he said that my mom and them were taking a picture and Sabra meant to pinch Kameron but she pinched my mom so hard! It was so funny and Sabra kept apologizing and saying she should give my mom something LOL
Neil-He was standing alone with a friend of Doms and Doms friend said they needed some ladies over there so Neil acknowledged me and asked if I wanted a picture! I took a picture with him and yes, I asked him to do the wookie and he did it out of the corner of his mouth.. so funny!
The others in the room, Dom, Hok, Jamie and Shauna I did not get to meet:( Alot of the time they were talking to Dimitri's parents who were there or friends. It was hard to get to them so I tried outside but still did not! Outside was SO packed so I am so happy I got the exclusive meet and greet!
I have a TON of pictures on my facebook just search for me... Angelica Agents I have two albums full and many from the meet and greet!

"I'm with the contestants during warm-ups and helping them come to terms with their nerves," Bassingthwaighte said.

Subbing For Lacey
We certainly hope for Lacey's quick return from her knee injury, but in the mean time it's interesting to see some of the substitutions. Here's Danny and Anya's Viennese Waltz to Lifehouse's You And Me, possibly my favorite routine of the season.
Jaimie Goodwin fills in for Lacey in Mia Michaels' reunion piece.
