The Sydney Morning Herald adds some depth to our understanding of Nigel Lythgoe:

"Since I've been [in America] I've had a heart attack, I've lost the back of my heart, I've had peritonitis, I've lost 15 feet [4.6metres] of my intestine, my marriage has broken up and I've lost my wife," he says. "And the gag now is, I miss my intestine." (Jokes aside, he says he is on good terms with estranged wife Bonnie and thinks she did an excellent job as a judge on the Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance.)

Scott Patrick Wagner wonders about the door slam sounds in Katee & Twitch's contemporary routine:

I had only heard the song used, “Mercy” by Duffy, in passing, and wasn’t familiar with the strong “slamming” percussive that ended those phrases. But I imagined that Mia let her imagination run wild with them, and they were perhaps the inspiration for the number. (Most of my own choreography has been to prerecorded pop music, and the arrangement can become a jumping-off point, if not a roadmap.)

I’ve had a chance to listen to the whole tune, and –somebody please correct me immediately if I’m wrong — but those door-slam percussives aren’t actually IN the song, at least not as it was recorded and released by the artist. To me, that just opens up a big ol’ can of worms. It has gone from feeling like inventiveness and resourcefulness to being, frankly, a cheat.

Gina Scarpa at BuddyTV speaks for many of us:

I pretty much agreed with everything the judges said last night, good and bad. The only thing that got my blood boiling was Nigel’s critique of Matt Dorame. He performed a jazz routine with Kourtni Lind and Nigel felt that neither got down and dirty enough. I understood what he meant when he said that Matt danced very upright but when he said that he danced like someone with a pole up “where the sun don’t shine”, it got a little harsh. So You Think You Can Dance has always been a show about celebrating one’s passion for dance and there just seems to be no reason to knock an artist down like that.

I get so tired of seeing SYTYCD called a guilty pleasure. If you watch it, Gossip Girl should be called a guilty pleasure. Hell's Kitchen should be called a guilty pleasure. Cheaters or that polygraph show or Girls Gone Wild should be called a guilty pleasure, but not So You Think You Can Dance. Be proud that you enjoy watching dedicated, talented young artists grow under the tutelage of respected professionals.

One of our favorite SYTYCD recappers, Adam B. Vary at EW, reports from the Idol Gives Back taping. He spotted:

"Benji, Danny, Travis, Nick, Donyelle, Heidi, Hok, Lacey, Pasha, Dmitry, Lauren — and that's all I could make out; there was at least a dozen more."

CORRECTION: The CBS show Secret Talent of the Stars premieres tonight, not Thursday, as we previously told you. Jason Samuels Smith is featured teaching a tap routine to singer Mya. Thanks to Divine Rhythm Productions for the correction.

Very surprising news here. The producers of Step It Up & Dance have moved their flagship show, Project Runway, from Bravo to Lifetime. Bravo parent company NBC is suing. It's too soon to tell if this will have any effect on Step It Up. Another surprise in the article is that we will get 2 more seasons of PR before the end of the year, one on Bravo and one on Lifetime.

Watch for Step It Up & Dance classes at your local Crunch Fitness Center. Bravo and Crunch have partnered to launch a customized fitness program that "will follow the dance styles featured in each week's episode."

Here are a couple more recaps of Step It Up. Beckylooo thinks it sucks the chrome off a tailpipe, Dancer in DC can take it or leave it, and it wouldn't be a Bravo reality show without a couple of gay guys dishing, would it? I say give it a chance, people.

US Stars Set To Visit Australia

On her Myspace blog, Sabra Johnson has big news about her upcoming international travel plans:

Australia has some great news! I am coming along with Kameron in April. We are going a number of places which I can't remember at the moment but I am sure about Sydney and Melbourne. We are so stoked about it and I know I'm probably not going to want to leave! If you want to find out a little more I'm sure Kameron will have all the info before me so just check out his page. We know how slow I am with mine :). I can't wait to meet Australia! Canada I'm still not sure when that will happen but hopefully soon.

We had previously reported that dancewear makers Sugar and Bruno had signed season 2 favorite Kameron Bink as a spokesmodel. Today we get news that they will also feature a Kameron Signature Series. A spokesperson tells us:

Sugar and Bruno Dancewear has signed Kameron Bink to be Sugar and
Bruno’s Spokesman and Model for its new Men’s line that will be
revealed March 2nd at the DRN (Dance Retailer News) Expo in Orlando
Florida.

Kameron was an instant fit and match for Sugar and Bruno. Kameron’s
sense of fashion in his everyday wear, lead to the inspiration behind

What can we expect from the upcoming project you helped choreograph, Step Up 2 The Streets?

This movie stems from Step Up. In that one it was a hip-hop kid coming to a technically trained studio and trying to bring hip-hop to the school. In this one it’s reversed—they’re trying to get street credibility coming from that school. So it tells a different story on the urban edge. The dancing got to be a lot more creative because I got a chance to use some of these technically trained dancers, on top of b-boys, on top of hip-hop, and take it to the next page on a whole hip-hop level.

Body: WHY HELLLLLLLLO!With the tour being non stop and us barely ever having the internet its been hard to update my myspace. But sadly the tour is coming to an end tomorrow and we pack our things to go home. WOW! INSANE!!!!! sytycd has been our life, our love, our hard work and more for the past 9 months. We all feel like we should be doing these shows for the rest of our lives. But as much as I would just LOOOOOVE to be doing transformers and lion king through my 80's and 90's its just not gonna happen! hahaha. But seriously, every good thing has to come to an end at some point. Just to let everyone know, we are all very determined and hard working people....it wont end here for us!

Everyone is using this experience to carry on and create new GOOD things. Don't want to spoil any surprises but you will be seeing a lot of the cast members in the future ;) I don't think America could have picked a better top 10! I am so blessed to have shared every moment of everyday by their sides. I got to meet so many good/cool/fun people while on this tour. It was definitely a blast meeting everyone ho voted for us and supported us during the show. Your love, laughter, kind words, cards, and gifts...

Last Interviews From Toronto

Marine Gobert of Down The Road Webzine concludes her series of interviews with the tour cast.

Jaimie and Kameron:

What are your plans after the tour? Will you stick to dancing or try other things?

Kameron: Well I think a few of us are trying to branch out into acting and stuff, but I just want to keep dancing, keep learning for this next year, ‘cause before the show I wasn’t really dancing at all until January of this past year so I just really want to keep learning for this next year and just keep going and take whatever opportunities come my way.

Jaimie: Well first I thought I would probably want to branch out into TV, a little bit, commercials and stuff, and I might still - but after the tour, lately I’ve been hearing that I’m a lot prettier in person than I was on TV. [laughs] So I might stay away from the camera for a little while! I love theatre work, the tour has made me appreciate theatre and being able to feed off people’s energy, having that instant reaction and not kind of wait for it and read it on the blogs, so definitely, I’d love to do some more theatrical stuff and I want to move to New York ‘cause everything I love is up there.

Kameron: Me too, I’m going to New York too!

Jaimie: Oh my gosh, that’s perfect, ‘cause now we can go shopping together every day.

Kameron: Not if you wake up and leave without me.

Jaimie: Okay, alright.

Kameron: We’ll work on that.

Jaimie: We will, I’m sorry!

Kameron: It’s okay Jaimie.

Don’t fight!

Jaimie: He’s been doing this to me all day!

Kameron: I do it to her every day, all day.

It’s cool to see a guy who likes shopping.

Kameron: Are you making fun of me now?

Lauren and Neil:

You were the last original partnership standing on the show – how did that feel?

Neil: That’s what’s up!

Lauren: I actually really wanted to dance in the final 4 so I could dance with Neil again just to see the difference from the very beginning of the show and then how much more we got used to it and use of partners and everything, see how it was at the end, it would have been really fun.

Neil: I would have loved to compete against- I mean, with Lauren in the finale. It would have been great to see her win the whole thing ‘cause she’s such a nice girl.

Lauren: Aw. I also think Neil lied once in the show, in the final 4 when he said he couldn’t pick a better final 4, I really think he wanted me to be there. [laughs]

Neil: I did, I did, because it was on national TV and I was put on the spot!

Lauren: Every time I watch it, I get really sad.

Neil: I’m sorry. I don’t lie but…

Lauren: That’s a large lie.

Jaimie And Kameron Interview

This is a long one. Murtz Jaffer continues his series of interviews at Reality Dish. Jaimie Goodwin and Kameron Bink talk about their experience on the show and their plans for the future.

MJ: In a competition where there is only one winner, do you think that the random selection of partners is fair (in the sense that so much of what you are judged on is based on chemistry and who you work with)?

KB: No, I really think that they know exactly how to make it as fair as possible. Because when you go on a job like later on in your career, you're never going to know the person you're dancing with and we all have to be dancers but we all have to be actors at the same time. It's preparing us.

JG: I feel like in the beginning they pair with your partners so that it will be a challenge for you, but they try and pair you with someone that you can grow the most with. You're with that partner for the most amount of time. I think you're judged mainly on that. And then when you split up and you have the random partners, they're judging based on you. By that time, partner-by-partner, you're already just being judged just as an individual. It's kind of cool because I feel like that random selection helps with the whole growing process and I think that's what the people want to see.

While Lacey Schwimmer recovers from a knee injury, Shauna Noland dances her part in Dancing with Kameron Bink. This is from the Hampton, Va. show.

Reports from the tour indicate that Lacey Schwimmer's knee injury has gotten worse and caused her to stop dancing for at least the next 3 shows. Shauna Noland is filling in for Lacey in the Dancing routine with Kameron Bink, Jaimie Goodwin is subbing for her in the Time piece with Neil Haskell, and Anya Garnis takes her place in the Samba with Danny Tidwell. Lacey and Danny's Viennese Waltz has been replaced with Anya & Danny's Viennese Waltz from early in the season. The Mein Herr routine has been dropped entirely as it was designed for the top 4 dancers. Lacey still appears at the beginning and end of the shows. The tour takes tonight off before appearing in Hampton, Va. tomorrow night.


Wade Robson will appear on tomorrow night's Dancing With The Stars results show. Reliable sources have confirmed that Travis Wall will be amongst the 8 dancers appearing with Wade. Thanks to Loralyn for the original tip.

First Tour Videos

Here's the first review I've seen, at Sean's Space.

In short, the SYTYCD kids did everything from the quick-step to samba, from contemporary to even popping and locking. Each of the 10 finalists (that's Sabra, Danny Tidwell, Neil Haskell, Lacey, Pasha Kovalev, Lauren Gottlieb, Dominic Sandoval, Sara Von Gillern, Kameron Bink and Jaimie Goowin) did a solo throughout the night, each teamed up for couples routines, and there were even several dances that included all 10 together.
