These videos were posted over at the SYTYCD Livejournal community. The quality is incredible. Very clear and close to the stage. They are the best I have seen. So much better than the Youtube ones.

The Mia Michael's group dance is especially beautiful. Danny Tidwell and Jaimie Goodwin are amazing. You can even see the definition of Danny's muscles in the video.

New Videos From Hartford

Ducky Does TV has some new videos from the Hartford show from our friend Chelsey. She says:

The show was so amazing, it felt like I was in the studio audience of the actual TV show! All the dances were performed perfectly, and seeing them live after I watched them on TV was fantastic. The highlight of the night for me was seeing the Mia Michaels contemporary group piece to "The Moment I Said It" by Imogen Heap. I was amazed by it on the show, but seeing it live was just unbelievable.

Also, meeting the dancers after the show was so surreal. After watching them on TV for the whole summer, and voting for them it was amazing to meet them. Each and every one of them is super nice, and they make sure that everybody gets an autograph or a picture. We only waited about 30-35 minutes for them to come out, and they stayed for a while. It was so nice of them to stay because they were clearly tired and had had a long day. When the boys were about to get on their bus, Hok gave Lacey a quick kiss on the cheek and it was so cute! The girls then waited for their bus and they said goodbye and left. A few minutes later we were walking down the street and their buses were parked on the corner and Dominick was in the front part of the bus near the drivers seat and was waving at us and making funny faces and he lifted up his shirt, it was really funny! Me and my friends also drove by the buses on the way out and we honked and screamed WE LOVE YOU SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE out the window. Overall it was a really fun night, and I highly recommend going to the show cause its awesome.

Size Disparity, Culture, And Pop

Someone named Burbly commented on this piece at Theory My Culture. The comment was so interesting and thought provoking, I want to call attention to it and post the 2 videos mentioned.

Allan Frias and Melody Lacayanga, Lyrical by Keith Young (choreography reel), season 1.

I had never seen this. I have to say, though the pairing is unusual, this worked for me on an emotional level. Sometimes, imperfection creates beauty. Burbly says they ended up in the bottom 4 that week.


Ricky Palomino and Ashlee Langas, choreography by Alex DaSilva, season 3.


It's interesting to look back at the 2 dancers we got to know the least. This was an unfortunate pairing of dancers, and dancers with choreography. The close dancing (and Ashlee's heels) accentuated the height difference. Ricky still looks to me like a 12-year-old Michael Corleone dancing with somebody's big sister at a mob wedding. I think it's safe to say we never saw the best either he nor Ashlee had to offer, but at least they both have outstanding comments from Mia Michaels to take with them for their career.

Brian Friedman is in the UK working on a show called X-Factor, but he's still a favorite of So You Think You Can Dance fans. Here he's teaching a class that includes season 1's Blake McGrath, season 2's Jason Williams, and season 3's Lauren Gottlieb.


We haven't seen Tovaris Wilson this season, but some of his lyrical choreography has been memorable. Check his Myspace page for more videos.

Jean-Marc Genereaux got the nod to choreograph the big opening number this week, to the tune of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." It was my favorite of the opening numbers so far. Lots of energy, and the period costumes were great. It's pretty impressive that, after all of the work that goes in to the weekly routine, the group is still able to come together and deliver these big numbers each week. As fun as they are though, we do tune in for the results.

Hok was one of my favorites for his dancing, but for the rest of the package as well. He's cool, has a nifty accent, dances, paints and plays violin well. Plus, I thought the mutual crush between him and Jaimie was cute. (Oh, and Hok would have brought in so many ticket sales for the tour!)

The other thing that I finally picked up on tonight is how he has a tendency to step out of the style of dance he is doing. When he gets away for his solo bits often times Danny the (dance of the week) performer disappears for a bit as Danny the ballet dancer appears. It's somewhat jarring and hurts the performance overall.

As the judges and Cat banter, I'm thinking to myself who SHOULD go. For the girls I think the bottom two in terms of range are Sara and Anya. Lacey is a frontrunner. The judges LOVE Sabra and Jaimie. And Lauren has been consistently good. The guys are all pretty much equally great. Pasha is Pasha and therefore awesome. Kameron is riding the Lacey train. The judges are absolutely enamored with Danny and Neil. Dominic consistently and pleasantly surprises everyone. And Hok has that continually growing fanbase. Here's an interesting one. Swan Lake Samba Girl knows Pasha and Anya from the ballroom world. She gives us some insights, like this about Pasha and his hair:

I had to laugh though at Sara’s hair comment. He DOES take forever with the damn hair! But it’s a Latin ballroom thing, I swear. They all wear their hair greased down, slicked back, blown-dry and hair sprayed firmly, stiffly into place, not a stray strand or else. It’s basically a rule of competition. It looks a bit kooky to me, to be honest, but no one challenges them rules… I’m thrilled they’re encouraging change with the hair thing here, but after all this time, it’s probably just one of those things that’s part of life for him. And the women’s makeup is another thing — so much of it at the comps, and just caked on! I’ve never seen so little makeup on Anya as here, and she looks gorgeous.

New Phillip Chbeeb Stuff

Houston Popper Phillip "PacMan" Chbeeb made a big splash with Shane Sparks and viewers with this audition.


We've been following Phillip and just found some videos, this one from 2006.
