SYTYCD News Roundup

Reality TV Magazine recaps last night's Charleston/DC audition show.

Water Cooler Convo has the song list.

In our scientifically worded poll: Mary? Yes or No, Yes prevailed with 58% of the vote. If it were a presidential election, it would be a landslide. The Sioux City Journal profiles Mary. Did you know she once auditioned to be one of the pros on Dancing With The Stars?

Submit your own Snuggle® Happy Dance video and maybe win a trip to the season 4 finale in LA from FOX.

Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin show why they dominated their field for years, here, here, and here.

Attention dancers: Monsters of Hiphop has a big summer of workshops planned around the US. Check the schedule and register here.

Catching Up With Cedric

GMToday recently talked to Cedric Gardner:

His most memorable moments on "So You Think You Can Dance" were working with top choreographers in the industry, celebrating judge Nigel Lythgoe’s birthday and going to the "Hairspray" premiere. "But the show itself was a lot more stressful because you have to throw like 2 million people in the mix that are watching you every week. And all of their opinions, so that makes it a lot harder," he says.

Here's Cedric at Monsters Of HipHop Chicago. This is more conventional than his signature style and different than anything we saw him do on the show.

Good News About Cedric

Gene at Monsters Of HipHop writes to tell us that it's just been booked and confirmed. Cedric Gardner will appear at their Orlando Tour Finale this weekend. More details at their site. Also, this from their MonsterBuzz blog:

Toy company Wild Planet has also called on Cedric, giving him a 2 week opportunity to come work with their San Francisco based outfit, learning all the ins & outs of the toy industry as well as sharing his ideas on new toys.

With this and the Chuy story earlier today, it's gratifying to see good things happening to good people.

Cedric & Shauna Interviews

BuddyTV gets first access each week to the departing contestants. The Cedric interview is up and available in text and audio.

Q. What made you want to try out for the show, were you a fan beforehand?

A. I loved the show, what made me try out for the show, actually was Ivan, like watching Ivan last year. I was just awed by the way he moved, just like, man it was just cool that he was like a hip-hop person who was actually from the Monsters of Hip/Hop, which I'm from, and that he made it so far. That was one reason, the other reason was just the study, just study as many different dance styles without, I know it sounds bad, but without paying for them. Because it can be really expensive to pay for dance everyday, all day long.

Shauna's interview:
Q. What was the experience for you like dancing with Cedric?

A. It was great, I really love Cedric and I think he's an amazing person as well as an amazing dancer. At times it would get stressful just because of him not really having that experience, but it was fun. I'm really glad I got to work with him. We would stay up really late and just work on it and talk to each other, and I think we really helped each other, it was fun.

From The Mailbox

Some readers point out some great videos for us. First, sometime SYTYCD judge/choreographer Brian Friedman dances with season 3 finalist Lauren Gottlieb at Monsters Of HipHop Chicago. I don't know why we haven't seen anything like this from Lauren on the show yet.

Next, a new compilation and some stuff we haven't seen yet from Phillip "PacMan" Chbeeb. We only saw a small fraction of what he can do during the season 3 auditions.

And finally, Phillip battles an amazing kid who goes by the name D-Rock. I'm predicting we'll be seeing D-Rock in the season 12 top 20.

Vote for Phillip's audition at Famecast. It could help him pay for college.

Hip-Hop Connection

The Monsters Of HipHop operate
dance workshops and conventions around the country. Season 2 favorite Ivan Koumaev was a cast member and finalist in Monsters of HipHop : The Show 2006, "Roadtrip", though he had to bow out when he made SYTYCD top 20. Now we learn that MOHH has a special relationship with 2 season 3 finalists; Cedric Gardner and Lauren Gottleib. Watch for coverage in their blog, Monster Buzz, at their site they call the Monsterhood.
